cursor weapons

Post by Zoy64 »

i think that the cursor should be a weapon in itself, like an invincible but energy wasting, long reload weapon. the point would be to support your troops in battle but you could not fire it in a space you cannot see. for example, you could fire it only in battle, not hover over your opponent's base and destroy everything. I'd be kinda fun to shoot things with a laser. an idea to compliment it would be to have a diferent weapon for different factions.

This post fails because:
  • It is in the feature requests forum - things like this are PER-MOD and should be implemented with lua by the mod
  • It violates about half of the basic rules defining how the sync system works
  • It is a bad idea in the first place...go play one of those flash games like castle defense

It just sounds like a revamp of Black and White, pretty much. Could be interesting, but would be very hard to make it actually work well.

Beside, we dont currently have any mod where such a weapon would make sense... It would have to be something like a God mod, like Argh said...

Your commander is YOU on the battlefield. That's why the game ends whem your commander dies. If you want, you can fire your laser or dgun.

Apparently, the idea of slapping your digital minions around is met with unusual dudgeon... have none of you folks even played B&W or Dungeon Keeper? They were both a heck of a lot of fun, in goofy ways, and slapping things was part of it. Oh, wait, you could also use this to pick stuff up and move it around... lol... <imagines moving hapless Peewee horde over a river, one click at a time>

An orbital ray per click fires a big wave of laser energy down from 100 y coordinates above the terrain, you must hit a special button added to a special gui.

I played both :) Being able to throw things around opens space for lots of creativity... anyone ever tried to set creature poo on fire and throw at enemy in Black & White? :)

I think that specs being able to interfere with gameplay would be interesting, but off course interference should be minimal and probally something that wouldnt favor any players :)

Okay... if I could pick up and throw peewees around and slap enemy Krogoths around this idea is win...

C&C Generals has things like air strikes and orbital ion cannons like this too, that would be pretty cool and totally LUA-able

Something along these lines that I thought was very clever was the sniper weapon in the original Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines. When you selected the sniper rifle, your cursor became like a magnifying glass, which looked like a scope, which made it easier to target units. It doesn't make as much sense given the 3D environment (compared to the sprites of commandos). But it was a neat feature.
