Keep crashing in CA + Vista
Hi there, I keep crashing in CA, almost every game, for the past 10 or so revisions. Saktoth, which also runs vista, almost always crashes at the same time as me.
Specs:
Nvidia 7600GT
Vista Ultimate 32 bit
2 gb of ram
AMD 3500+ Oced
and the infolog is here
http://pastebin.ca/875574
and the translated stacktrace is here
http://pastebin.ca/875575
Hope you can help,

given that i seriously havent seen any purely positive reports on vista... i wouldnt touch it, unless for some reason it became nesscesary.

While fun, posts like that are very little helpful, which they should be, you know, considering this is the help forum and all, not the try to start random flamewars forum.
Edit: also the first thing to do when you get crash issues on an oced machine is to stop ocing it and see if that helps. At least that is what I would do, as I heard it causes lots of random issues, and not surprisingly, it has caused a few Spring issues on the past. More of the desync kind though.
Though I don't get it, isn't this a CA only problem? if so, why aren't you asking in the CA forum or the CA thread here or in #ca?

Re: Keep crashing in CA + Vista
all im saying is that when you have an OS known to be cranky with programs that arent specifically designed for it you shouldnt be surprised when its not happy with a cobbled together program like Spring.
now onto real help :D are you running the latest drivers? if you are, have you tried rolling back a version or two? is it stable with other mods? other (non-vista) games? is it related to a specific unit? or an amount of gametime elapsed?
stacktraceplz?

Uh, that'd be all Windows versions, and Spring was specifically designed for Windows so...all im saying is that when you have an OS known to be cranky with programs that arent specifically designed for it
Trust me, Vista's not the worst offender on being "cranky with programs that arent specifically designed for it", with one exception I managed to play all the games I wanted to on Vista, while when I switched to XP from 98, wow did my gaming options reduce themselves. IIRC, 2 games I couldn't play in XP actually worked in Vista too.

looking at the translated trace, its windows crapping out on you first and foremost, possibly tied into the lua fbi/tdf replacements or the buildcosts widget (which crashed out just before you did)

Re: Keep crashing in CA + Vista
thanks for the reply PressureLine. mm ill try without buildcosts enabled..
i really think that luaui should not be allowed to crash the whole spring engine. it should jsut disable or something like that..

Re: Keep crashing in CA + Vista
According to the LUA reference manual, there's very little that can be done about crashes within LUA itself. Overall, LuaUI / Rules crashes are handled very elegantly.
And, see, from your infolog I can see that there were obvious errors caught:
It looks like, to me, that you're mishmashing a bunch of stuff. Try clearing your LuaUI folder out, see if you still have problems.
