Spring not reading downloaded maps.

Post by Nimue »

I'm pretty new to the game and I downloaded a couple of maps as directed by my friends, unzipping the files and putting them in this folder:

C:\Program Files\Spring\maps

They are all in .sd7 format, but somehow Spring doesn't seem to be reading the files and even after pressing the reload map list button several times it still doesn't show up in the list.

Before posting that I had a little read of some of the other map problem related topics in hopes that the answer was there. There was one person who had a problem very similar to mine but they solved it by looking in the paths folder and realised they'd left something in there. I've looked in the paths folder and I can only see the stuff that was in there when I installed the game in the first place.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Doesn't this contradict each other?

Anyway, what you should see in your map folder is a bunch of .sdz and .sd7 files. When downloading from UF you shouldn't need to unzip anything!

Do you happen to use IE6 as browser?

She uses IE7. I guess they could be corrupted. I'll pop my versions over LAN.

edit: Okay it works now.

Boyfriend to the rescue! ^^

If the server sends a wrong header for the file, it might be saved as .zip even if it should be .sdz

And this is only using IE. Somehow microsoft thinks the browser should know better what you are downloading then the file extension says :P

Possible solutions:

-fix server to send proper header info
-nag microsoft to fix ie
-save the file with "filename.extension" using the "" as this will force the extension correctly
