Celerons already run ridiculously hot and won't take much of a beating. Buy a new CPU. Also, when I was looking for overclocking software, I found that you can only get it for specific CPUs/chipsets/motherboard, etc... If you can't overclock in your bios, you probably just can't overclock.

My celeron runs suprisingly cold...but I could cook eggs on the northbridge.
Intel motherboards and their terriblePhoenix bios are practically impossible to overclock, short of hardwiring the clock oscillator =\

Asus motherboards seem to usually have a good bios. Usually the stuff is autoselected for you, like... "overclock: 0% / 10% / 20% / 30%"... etc. But the settings actually work pretty well. It's got my 3 ghz @ 3.6 with about 20% increase in memory speed too! I have a P4P800SE, great thing, just doesn't have a PCI-E port so I'll have to get rid of it one day :(

My celeron runs pretty cool, which I why I wanted to overclock it a bit before I upgraded, but I do have an MSI motherboard and a Pheonix BIOS. :(
Thanks anyways.
I kinda wanted to practice OCing cause my next idea for an upgrade is a Pentium D 805 2.66ghz, for those of you who dont know, those are the absolute kings of overclocking. Up to 3.8ghz on air alone, 4.1 stable, and reported to go past 4.3. Problably more. Apparently when they are overclocked to 4.1ghz their performace comes close to a $600 CPU, for like $150, UNDER $100 if your in the US.
Ill get a link to a Toms Hardware article on it if you want, its like 50 pages, but you only need to read the first few.

PS: Spend a few extra dollars to get an ASUS board. Trust me, it will be worth it, especially if your an overclocker.

With liquid nitrogen cooling, it goes to 6 GHz :P

As much as liquid nitrogen is interesting, I doubt any of you will have a machine using it anytime soon.

mine will hit 4.8 on watercooling..

not very stable though...

its "stable enough" at 4.4 GHz...

and its VERY stable at anything 4.2 GHz or under...
:-)

yay for top of the line stuff

Image
The V-core reading on the software.. it gets a "red" warning on anything over 10% overclock, but yeah, its not very accurate... I trust my PSU more than that... I paid a pretty penny for the dang Ultra X-connect 500 watt modular supply :P

but yeah, software to overclock... lol.. DREAM ON...

get a good bios, or a board with pre-configured software like the Abit Fatal1ty AA8XE like I have..

every card is different, every system is diffferent, every case the parts are in, is different.

you can only find out by expirementation.

just be careful, expirementation usually means mistake, mistake means, broken card.

Yeah, lucky me I am getting a new comp in 8 months if I have all A's...

Not to mention I SAW A 260$ X1900XT! MY PARENTS WOULDN'T LET ME GET IT! ARRGGGHHHH! (not you...)

Edit: 230 Core Clock Frequency to 335 MHz...

and 400 Memory Clock Frequency to 524 Mhz..

This is the limit, it can't perform higher...

"The Test failed to run at the selected clock frequencies. Please lower the settings and try again." Is what it gives me, I have this down to the single MHz that separates it from pass and fail... I hope it doesn't melt, and helps a lot...

I'd rather not do that. 5% at once, 20% max. If it's stable then increase. Unless you've got the money to buy a new one (which I doubt). Wait, you got an ATI board. Oh just go ahead and overclock it by 200%. It's fine.
(death to ATI!)

I have my Core Clock Frequency performing at 1.45 times normal (45% better) and not to mention, I HAD THE MONEY TO BUY THE CARD!

Edit: and I have 600$ on me now.. My parents won't let me buy a new one though...

And the Memory Clock Frequency at 1.31 times normal

Any higher and these will give me a test failure, and, I did go up by about 10%'s, testing Oblivion...

The FPS for the opening screen (the map and everything) went from 80 to 190 with 20% increase, with 40% and all, it should go like 300 :P

edit2: Damnit, I have an Nvidia Geforce FX5200XT... Not an ATI...

Not to mention the X1900XT can run obliv at full with 60-> fps..

I'd still not touch ATI. It's like going STD hunting.

Okay, do you have proof... Can Nvidia do AA, HDR and bloom, all at the same time? and Still have over 60 FPS?
