In-game - entire screen shifted downwards

Post by PK Maximoo »

I've had this issue for as long as I can remember and always forgot to ask anyone about it...

When playing Spring full-screen, the entire screen contents are shifted down on my display by 20-30 pixels, leaving a coloured strip across the top of the screen and an equal amount (including the bottom of the info box in the bottom corner) falls off the bottom of the screen.

I'm pretty certain it isn't my monitor; it's not impossible that it's some oddity with my graphics card, I suppose, but... I don't remember it happening in any other game.

When playing in windowed mode I don't think I get this problem. Of course, windowed mode runs a little more sluggishly, so I'd prefer to get it working full screen properly.

I usually play with pretty minimal settings, since my computer isn't that amazing any more. Athlon XP 2000+, nVidia Fx5200, 512MB RAM.

If there's any more info needed to sort this out just ask; I'd appreciate any help in getting rid of this problem.

it is probably the refreshrate that gets changed as spring shitfts to fullscreen. IIRC you cannot even anymore change the refreshrate of spring so you must force it from the drivers (atleast nvidia has this ability in forceware)

Then again, the problem could be related to something entirely different.

its a thing with lcd screens and nvidia driver.

If anything its SDL not Spring thats to blame.

Try changing your resolution so it's 20-30 pixels taller.

because of the way spring uses SDL? What other programs do you know that use OpenGL+SDL? I've only gotten the issue with spring on my computer with certain resolutions, and only since I bought my 20" LCD monitor, on my CRT it never happened at all.

It doesnt happen for me on the resolutions listed in the settings dialog, only when I change them to make it more fitting for my widescreen aspect ratio.

For the record: none of what was said here solved the problem at all.

I tried rotating my display and then spring only took up half of the monitor space... perhaps this is related...

I have a thin strip of colour at the top of mine. A few minutes fiddling the resolution values in settings has gotten it dissapeared now.

Can you try to get a screenshot of this? Use the normal method not the f12 method.....

Try photobucket in the future, it's so easy to use I actually prefer it to just plain FTPing to my site now.

Take a screenshot (F12 while in game).
Out of the game, the screenshot is still cut?

If it is, it is a problem with this game.

If not, it's probably because the video mode changed from the one you use in the desktop and the monitor is not adjusted to it, showing the image in the wrong position. The monitor should have memory and, after adjusting it (up/down and/or left/right) it should keep future Spring games in place unless you change Spring's resolution for example.

By the way, post here what the screenshot looked like, so we know what is wrong.

Both of these pictures have been done using F12
As you can see, when started windowed at full res, there is also a gap at the top.

The monitor is a 24" LCD, using DVI, so there is no option to change the image monitor side. The refresh rate of the monitor is locked to 60Hz.

Any ideas?

I had this problem before...and I forget how I fixed it. :(
Try experimenting with different resolutions, Also if you have windowblinds, either shut it off or tell it not to skin sping. Thats all I can think of right now.

Added spring to the exceptions list, works fine now! forgot this install had windowblinds installed (tinyXP vista edition)

Many thanks for your help, I wonder if this is maximoos problem also?
