I tried installing it natively but entered what I believe is commonly called Dependency Hell. Installing under wine took less effort, which given that I shouldn't really be spending my time installing games won out.

I have just installed Spring under Wine on Linux, everything seems to be working fine except that I don't know how to login to the server.
